Microfibre has specific functions: it dries quicker, it dries you quicker, it absorbs a shed load of water, its anti-bacterial and doesn’t smell, it’s 4 times more compact than cotton, it’s durable, machine washable and it removes grease from surfaces by hooking them into the fabric! Only microfibers that are tightly woven to a high spec will do exactly that.

There are of course lower quality microfibre products on the market masquerading as the real thing, but in action they might as well just be cheap cotton towels or regular dust rags.
